The journey itself, through terraced hillsides and ancient forest, builds anticipation for tomorrow's encounter.

Gorilla Trekking — Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

The moment the entire journey has been building toward. An early morning briefing at the park headquarters before entering Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with your ranger guide. The trek through the forest varies from one to six hours depending on where the gorilla family has moved overnight — it is always worth every step.

Then, the encounter. A full hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family — silverbacks, mothers with infants, juveniles playing in the undergrowth. Being in the presence of an animal that shares 98.3% of human DNA, in their own ancient forest, is unlike any other wildlife experience on earth. No photograph fully captures it. Your gorilla permit is fully included in the tour price.

Bwindi — Forest Walk or Optional Second Trek

A second day in the Bwindi forest with two options. For those who want the gorilla experience again — and many do — an optional second gorilla trek can be arranged at additional cost ($700pp). The second trek often visits a different family group, an entirely new encounter.

For those choosing to rest or explore differently, a guided nature walk through Bwindi's forest reveals the extraordinary biodiversity that makes this the most species-rich forest in Africa: 350 bird species (including 23 Albertine Rift endemics), forest elephants moving silently through the undergrowth, and the ancient fig and mahogany trees that have stood here for thousands of years. Afternoon at leisure at the lodge.

Drive to Entebbe via Lake Mburo

An en-route game drive in Lake Mburo National Park adds zebra, impala, eland and Uganda's only topi population to the journey north.

Arrive in Entebbe on the shores of Lake Victoria — the world's largest tropical lake. Farewell dinner at your elegant lakeside lodge, where your guide reviews the eleven extraordinary days just completed: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda. The Mara, the Serengeti, and Bwindi.
